  • Time Travel Tuesday #3

From Good Housekeeping ©Edward Olive - fine art photographer - Getty Images Brunch Wedding Receptions Food has always been a major part of weddings. However, during the 1940s, many couples decided to have their receptions during the daytime to cut costs on more expensive meals.

  • Time Travel Tuesday #2

From Good Housekeeping ©Lisa-Blue - Getty Images and Oh So Delightful Grooms Wore Uniforms While grooms looked dapper donning their military attire, it wasn't always a fashion choice. "There are lots of examples of military nurses wearing their nursing uniforms to their own weddings," says Dunak. "During wartime, it wasn't unusual for a couple to marry while a man was on leave. So, couples made arrangements very quickly. The bride in her best suit/dress and the groom in uniform. If the bride to be was a uniformed servicewoman, she would not have had civilian rationing stamps to purchase her wedding clothes. In that instance, she would probably have worn her best uniform.

  • Welcome to Time Travel Tuesday

We thought it would be interesting to turn back the calendar to years ago to see what traditions for weddings used to be. We're going to begin with the 1940's and suprisingly enough some of the traditions have come back now and then. We're going to start with a little make-up fact: Red Lipstick Not only was scarlet lip an eye-catching look for brides, women were often encouraged to paint their puckers red during this period to send romantic messages via letters stamped with "lipstick kisses" to troops to keep them in good spirits. • Wondeful Experience

I want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to brides of today, these ladies made my wedding day and my dress picking so special. I had a previous bad experience with another bridal shop and not being treated the same as their "smaller" brides. I was so defeated, I did not want to go dress shopping again. My girls and mom came together and found brides of today. I was not sure what to expect walking into their business, but I was welcomed with the brightest friendliest smiles. These ladies made me feel like I was like every other bride and deserved what every other bride gets for their dress experience. I was told to go ahead and look around and pick some dresses to try on, I was looking at the sizes and concerned that I could not fit them. Pam was amazing and told me not to look at the sizes and they would get me into whatever dress I chose! Wow what a difference from the other bridal shop. I tried on a few dresses and the one I picked was the 2nd dress I tried on. I knew this was the dress even though they could not zipper it to get the full effect. I cried when I got my measurements as I was worried again when the dress came it would not fit. They worked with the designer and she actually created a new pattern to make the dress 2 sizes bigger than the biggest size to ensure it would fit. I honestly can not thank these ladies enough for the love and care they have for their brides. I would and do recommend them to any plus size bride who is looking for a dress. I felt as thought these ladies were family! When the dress came in it was actually TOO big and they worked their magic to let me know everything was going to be okay and we would get it fixed. ~Mettae

  • The Confidence Curve: Learning to Love the Skin You’re In

Let’s be honest: we’re all swimming in a sea of unrealistic beauty standards. Magazines, social media, even well-meaning friends sometimes feed us the idea that thinness = value. That smaller is better. That happiness comes after we “fix” ourselves. But you are not a before picture. You are not a work in progress. YOU ARE ENOUGH! The confidence curve is about unlearning that harmful messaging and remembering that you are worthy  of showing up in your life right now — fully and unapologetically.

  • 5 Must-Know Tips Before You Buy Your Mother-of-the-Bride or Groom Dress

Here are some essential tips and key things to know before shopping for your Mother of the Bride/Groom gown... Start with the Dress Timing: Begin shopping 6-8 months before the wedding . Mother's dresses take 4 months to order and allow 2 months for alterations. Coordinate with the Bride: Consult with the bride to discuss colors, formality, and the vibe of what she envisions you wearing the day of. Traditionally, the mother-of-the-bride chooses first, then the mother-of-the-groom coordinates accordingly. Best way is to bring along the bride to your appointments. Try the Full Look—Not Just the Dress: Bring the day of or similar shows and undergarments to appointments and fittings. A dress can look completely different with the right (or wrong) foundation. Alterations Are (Almost) Always Needed: Expect tailoring. Even expensive gowns often need adjustments. Budget both time and money for alterations. Take Photos Before You Buy: Snap pictures in natural lighting from multiple angles to get a true sense of how the dress will appear in wedding photos.
